Video footage showing a babysitter "vigorously" rocking a baby, in Xingtai City of north China's Hebei Province, has gone viral raising questions and condemnation of the "right way" to get a baby to sleep. The video has now been watched over 30,000 times with more than 24,154 people commenting on it.
The baby was later sent to a hospital by the parents, and the doctor said the way the babysitter was "rocking" the baby might have caused a brain hemorrhage.
The doctor said the babysitter's actions could have led to shaken baby syndrome which triggers severe brain damage, including subdural hematoma, retinal bleeding, and brain swelling. In a majority of cases there is no visible sign of external injury.
Shaken baby syndrome occurs when someone violently shakes an infant out of frustration or anger, often because a child won't stop crying. Although shaking does eventually make the baby stop crying, the violent movement causes bruising, swelling, and bleeding.
