Unique footage from deep in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan shows a CH-47 Chinook helicopter conduct a sling-load recovery of a downed AH-64 Apache.
The Boeing CH-47 Chinook twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter is one of the fastest and most powerful helicopters in the US inventory, and as you can see in the video, it has no problems extracting the destroyed aircraft.
Although the mangled Apache is beyond repair, it has been fitted with sensitive technology that must not be allowed to fall into enemy hands. While illiterate caveman Taliban fighters wouldn’t make any intel gains from the material, the Russians and Chinese would pay top dollar for the wreckage.
