Dramatic footage shows moment when hero shopper rugby tackles robber in a Bargain Booze store

Hero shoppers stopped a knife-wielding robber during a hold-up in an off-licence.

Video footage of the incident shows a customer rugby tackle the thug as he held up a woman shop keeper at a Bargain Booze off-licence.

Shoppers then wrestled him to the ground and disarmed the raider at the store in Cheadle, Greater Manchester .

Liam Roof intervened after another customer had confronted the thug.

A masked man had unleashed a knife and held it against the shop assistant and demanded money and booze.

Liam, 19, said: “I was outside and he walked right past me into the shop.

"I could tell he was up to no good as he was loitering on the corner.

“The other guy started to get the knife off him and I thought I’m going to have to get stuck in.

"It was just instinct and an instant reaction.

“I ran at him to back up the other lad and there was a big scuffle, I had to give him an elbow.

“Then we held him there while he tried to get up.”

Liam added: “I’ve never done something like that before but I’d do the same thing again.

"It’s my local shop and you don’t want people stealing from your own.

“There were two women on their own and afterwards they were scared and crying.

"You don’t know what could have happened, they could have been stabbed.

“I’m glad I could help out, no one should do that to the community, it’s sick.”

Police have confirmed that officers were called to reports of a robbery at the off-licence at 9.50pm and that two members of the public intervened.

Officers have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery .
