Terrorists who plotted to cause two trains to crash and drive a truck packed with explosives into Russia's Navy Day celebrations have been detained, it has been claimed.
Russian secret agents say they have thwarted an alleged jihadist cell which also aimed to disrupt the Confederations Cup football tournament in June, a precursor to next year's World Cup.
Sources at the Federal Security Service say extremists tried to engineer the crash of two bullet trains with a combined speed of 186mph.
When that plan failed, an attack was allegedly pencilled in for July 30 in St Petersburg when President Vladimir Putin was leading the annual Russian Navy Day celebrations.
