WARNING UPSETTING CONTENT: Footage shows the disgusting conditions the creatures were kept in - the owner has since been banned from keeping animals for life
A pet owner has been banned from keeping animals for life after dozens of cats and a ferret were rescued from a house "waist high" in faeces.
Horrific footage shows RSPCA inspectors making their way through the home in Hillsway, Shirebrook, and finding filth in the rooms as well as animal faeces smeared up the walls and on furniture.
Empty cat food cartons are seen discarded in one room with animal cages stacked up and caked in dirt.
The house had belonged to the late mother of Martin Jones, 59, who pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the animals at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
A member of the public called the welfare charity after becoming concerned about the creatures.
