A British beach looked like it had experienced an alien invasion when these strange-looking creatures washed ashore. Photographer Lara Clarke-Wardle first thought she had found the entrails of something killed at sea. But then she saw a heaving mass of the strange creatures and later identified them as rare goose barnacles. They are filter feeders that attach themselves to hard surfaces of rocks and flotsam in the ocean.
