Disturbing footage has emerged showing a girl tossing a black cat in a rubbish bin and running away.
The cat was left for dead after the unidentified girl closed the lid and placed rubbish on top of the bin to weigh it down.
The act of cruelty was revealed by a resident who set up a CCTV camera outside her property after having problems with youngsters in the past.
Jean Atkinson, 68, was left outraged after reviewing the footage when she noticed that her bin lid was open.
She told the Hull Daily Mail that the video showed the girl returning several times to check that the cat was still inside before she "disappeared".
Ms Atkinson, of Weymouth Close, Bransholme, Hull, said: "I found my bin open so I checked and saw a girl put a black cat in the bin.
"She came up, she had a black cat in her hand, she lifted the bin lid and put the cat in it."
The footage was filmed on August 17, showing the girl peeking inside the bin after chucking the cat inside.
She then picked up a bag of rubbish and placed it on top of the bin in what appeared to be an attempt to prevent the animal from getting out
The girl was then seen sprinting off.
