Police officers have warned shoppers not to fall for one of the oldest tricks in the book - the so-called 'three cup trick' .

Con artists have been pulling this one off for millennia, with the 'game' dating at least as far back as Ancient Greece.

Unsuspecting victims across the UK have been falling foul of the scam recently, prompting police officers to issue official warnings.

But how is it done? Our colleagues at Get Reading have put this explainer video together.

A ball is placed under one of three cups, with the trickster then moving all three cups across a mat.

However, the scammer uses sleight of hand to remove the ball from the cup, and so the guess is never right.
