Shocking footage of a tram ploughing into a woman and cutting off her leg demonstrates the dangers of being distracted by a mobile phone.
The horrendous clip shows a 40-year-old woman heading towards a pedestrian crossing over a tram line.
Without looking either left or right, the woman, who has her phone in her hand, steps out onto the track.
A bright yellow tram is clearly visible to her left but she doesn’t see it and walks straight into its path.
The vehicle has no chance of stopping and smashes into the woman, knocking her to the ground as horrified onlookers jump in shock.
According to local media reports in Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, where the accident happened, the woman ignored a red light on the pedestrian crossing.
The tram sliced off the woman’s right leg and left her body a “bloody mess”, according to the reports.
She was rushed to hospital by ambulance after the crash yesterday and is now undergoing surgery.
