A woman who turned up at a televised police press conference claiming to be a sign language expert outraged viewers by seemingly making up signs as she went along.
Officers in Tampa, Florida, say they did not order an interpreter for the deaf when they delivered an update on a quadruple murder.
But the woman, identified by police as Derlyn Roberts turned up nevertheless, and proceeded to cause confusion.
Deaf viewer Rachelle Settambrino told the Tampa Bay Times : "She sat up there and waved her arms like she was singing Jingle Bells.
"I was disappointed, confused, upset and really want to know why the city of Tampa’s chief of police who is responsible for my safety and the safety of the entire community did not check her out."
