Ben Shapiro said President Donald Trump’s plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital is an act of "political bravery" and "moral courage." Trump on Wednesday ordered the State Department to begin moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians. The move is expected to inflame tensions across the Middle East. On "Fox & Friends," Shapiro said this a ground shift and a necessary move to achieving lasting peace in the region. "What President Trump is doing is not just a recognition of reality, it's also an act of political usefulness," Shapiro said, explaining that all of the Middle East peace negotiations over the past 20 years have been preconditioned on the idea that Israel would give up its "eternal capital." He said that is "insane," as Jerusalem has extraordinary religious and historical importance to the Jewish people.
"For President Trump to recognize that this isn't going anywhere, that the freedom of Israel is just inherently connected with the freedom of Jerusalem … it's a recognition of a reality that's necessary in order for real peace to be achieved in the region, not based on false stupidities that have been promulgated for the last couple decades," Shapiro said.
