Father threatens to murder baby with large knife at school as teachers desperately try to talk him down

This is the dramatic moment a father wielding a large knife threatened to murder his own son while teachers tried desperately to talk him down.



Distressing footage of the incident at a school in Saudi Arabia shows the man kneeling over a five-month-old boy with the knife pointing down towards him.



The baby seems to be laying on his back, incredibly still, as the chaos went on around him.



His father was filmed shouting at those trying to help, demanding they "stay back" as he promised to slaughter his offspring.



The tense situation saw a teacher approach the knifeman pleading with him for the child's safety, as other teachers tried to help from behind.



Eventually the teacher, wearing white thawb - traditional Arab dress - takes off his head dress and throws it at the man before taking another step towards him.



The man was arrested in the grounds of the school in the village of Muweileh near Tabuk, and has been taken away for a mental health assessment.



The baby was handed back to his mother and is in good health, according to Saudi Arabian news website Okaz .



The head of the Tabuk district police, Major General Mohammed al-Tamimi said an investigation is ongoing.



It is not clear why the man was threatening to kill his son, or why he chose the village school.
