While The Young Turks (TYT) founder Cenk Uygur apologized today for his disgusting comments about women in the past, it turns out he has some serious competition from his own nephew, TYT rising star Hasan Piker, for the distinction of being the left-wing network’s most misogynistic personality. Piker, whose viral videos have been viewed tens of millions of times this past year alone, and whose supposed progressive beliefs on issues like sexual harassment convinced Buzzfeed to dub him “Woke Bae” when it profiled him this May – has a long history of vile, disturbing, and outright bigoted comments directed towards women in politics that rivals Uygur’s, according to a GotNews review of Piker’s Twitter account.
Ironically, the up-and-coming liberal pundit currently presents himself as a champion of feminism and gender equality, but Piker’s past comments towards prominent conservative and liberal women alike paint a disturbingly different picture. Piker’s remarks range from judging women in politics on their physical attractiveness to describing the roles these women play in his own disturbing sexual fantasies. These comments reveal that Piker has a profound – and often creepy – disrespect for women who pursue careers in politics, and suggest the liberal commentator may simply have a deep-seated misogynistic streak in him.
Piker has evidently been employed by the Young Turks Network since early 2014, having previously interned at the outlet. More recently, he has achieved stardom in left-wing circles on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter for his passionate videos on TYT discussing current events from a progressive perspective. However, both before and during his current spell at TYT, Piker has time and time again injected a particularly virulent strain of sexism into his public opinions of various women in politics.
