David Brock, the founder of the Democratic opposition research group American Bridge, steered hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring out sexual harassment allegations against then-candidate Donald Trump.
According to a report from Ken Vogel of the The New York Times, Democratic opposition research operative David Brock and Democratic big-dollar donor Susie Tompkins Buell paid a total of $700,000 to attorney Lisa Bloom to bring forward accusations of sexual misconduct against Donald Trump during the 2016 election.
Trump faced allegations that he had sexually harassed women in the run up to November 2016, but according to Vogel, “That case collapsed one week before Election Day.â€
The allegations against Trump and the surfacing of the “Access Hollywood†tape energized Democratic donors, who sought to pay women to accuse the presidential candidate of misconduct. Vogel reported that Brock’s American Bridge 21st Century Foundation sent $200,000 to Bloom, and Tompkins Buell donated $500,000 to the effort.
However, the $700,000 was not enough. “It was not productive. One woman requested $2 million, Ms. Bloom said, then decided not to come forward. Nor did any other women,†The New York Times wrote.
