Peru's ancient Nazca Lines have been damaged after a lorry driver allegedly ignored warning signs and ploughed through part of the 2,000-year-old archaeological site.
The Unesco World Heritage Site was left with irreparable scars from the lorry's tyres.
Peruvian officials said there were deep marks across three parallel lines, or geoglyphs, in an area measuring 104ft by 328ft.
The lorry driver claims his truck suffered a mechanical problem and he pulled over to change a tyre
The enormous Nazca Lines were meticulously carved into the desert, depicting animals, plants, imaginary beings and geometric figures several miles long.
