Two teenagers are being investigated by police after horrifying footage appeared to show them putting a plastic bag over a child's head.
The toddler can be seen trying to pull the bag off as he struggled to breathe during the distressing Snapchat clip.
In another clip, a young child has water continuously poured into its mouth.
As the bag is put on the child, a male voice is heard saying: "We're not child abusers, we're just teaching them discipline.
"Making sure that they're not dead, but they can't breathe."
A boy aged 13 and a 14-year-old girl are suspected of making the footage at a home in Melbourne, Australia, and uploading it to Snapchat.
A police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia : "Police interviewed a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl in relation to a video released on social media.
"They have been released pending summons. The toddler involved is safe and well."
In another video the couple defended themselves, with the male saying: "If I want to slap my child, I'll slap him as much as I want."
Horrified commenters voiced their outrage after the clip went viral.
One wrote: "Vile creatures! Joking about your child dying. I hope he's removed from your ''care'' ASAP."
In a statement, au.news reports, police said: "Concerns were raised for the safety of a toddler as the result of a video and photos posted.
"The toddler has been located safe and well."
