Jim Messina, President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign manager told the “Morning Joe” panel on Friday that “Democrats should be absolutely not confident in our ability to beat Donald Trump.” Messina argued Democrats need an economic message that motivates Americans in order to win in 2020.
BBC’s Katty Kay asked Messina if he was discounting the possibility that Trump could win reelection in 2020 during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“No. Look, I think Donald Trump can absolutely be reelected,” Messina responded. He then attempted to pivot to talking about the upcoming 2018 midterm elections, which Messina thinks favors the Democratic Party.
Kay interjected, asking Messina again if he thinks Trump could win reelection in 2020.
“I do. We have to nominate a candidate who can move forward an economic message that motivates this country, and Democrats should be absolutely not confident in our ability to beat Donald Trump until we can do this,” Messina said.
