Chaos prevailed in Indore's Palhar Nagar area on Friday morning when a leopard strayed into the locality.
The leopard first entered an under-construction house and later into the residence of local businessman, where it sat for about three hours occasionally coming out to attack a team of forest officials and onlookers.
The first call regarding the presence of the big cat was made at 10am to the local police, who reached the spot and immediately called the forest department and the local zoo administration.
The animal first hid behind the iron grills of an under-construction house. The forest officials spread a net to capture it, but sensing the trap, the beast jumped outside and attacked SDO (forest) RC Choubey and rushed to the Patodi residence where it sat for hours on the stairs.
“Initially, we tried to use the stun gun and fired two pellets. However, both of them missed the target. The third shot hit the leopard. The tranquilizer used in the process was given according to the size of the leopard but it was insufficient,” zoo in-charge and veterinarian Uttam Yadav said.
