A prank 999 call where a boy asks police for a condom has been met with condemnation by officers who are now calling on parents to educate their children.
Avon and Somerset police ’s call handling team chose April Fool’s Day to share some of the hoax and unwarranted calls they have received to the emergency number over the past year.
And this recording reveals one call, when a young voice used up more than a minute of the hard-pressed call handler’s time for a prank about condoms.
Other calls might be intentional hoaxes – like the person who called up to ask if witchcraft was a crime – but the police said each one wastes valuable time.
“Sadly this isn't an April Fool... and 999 is certainly not becoming a condom dispensary service,” a police spokesperson said.
