Two boys have been charged with animal cruelty over a video of a kitten being hurled 30ft into a canal.
The shocking clip showed the distressed young cat, called Ben, being thrown over the waterfront railings into the Manchester Ship Canal in Runcorn.
The camera then follows the cat as it falls away into darkness.
Cheshire Police began an investigation after thousands shared the vile clip online.
One social media user branded those responsible as the ‘dregs of life’.
A reader who emailed the video to the Liverpool ECHO identifying themselves as Justice Is Red – one of the nicknames of Runcorn vigilante Red Eye - said the cat was thrown 30 feet.
