Those waiting until the last minute to pay their taxes have a new problem on their hands: The IRS website is having technical difficulties.
The department's Direct Pay system, which lets people pay an estimate of taxes directly from their bank account free of charge, was down early Tuesday afternoon, hours before the midnight deadline for people to file their 2017 taxes.
Those looking to pay through this method have been greeted with an error message saying, "This service is temporarily unavailable. We are working to resolve the issue. Please come back later and try again, or you can visit the Make a Payment page for alternative payment methods. We apologize for any inconvenience."
