A man thought be the oldest person in the world has died at the age of 121.
Celino Villanueva Jaramillo, who was born in July 1896, suffered a pierced lung when he fell out of bed last week.
He died in hospital yesterday after an emergency operation, having been in intensive care.
Mr Jaramillo, who lived in San Jose de Mariquina in southern Chile, was never recognised as the oldest person alive by Guinness because his birth certificate was destroyed in a fire.
But officials in the South American country had no doubts about his age - although he was never given any specialist care.
For the two decades of his life he lived with a mother and daughter after the blaze.
