A MASS SHOOTING in Australia has left seven people dead, including four children, in what police are treating as a murder-suicide.
Western Australia Police officers were called to a rural property in Osmington, around 20 kilometres north-east of Margaret River, at around 5:15am local time on Friday.
Five adults were found inside the property and two other bodies were discovered outside in what police described as a shed that had been converted into living quarters.
Two firearms were also found at the scene.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad and Forensic Crime Unit are at the scene as part of the investigation.
The ages of the children and the adults have not yet been revealed.
During a media conference, WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said a “male person” connected to the property had phoned police just after 5:00am.
He added the phone call had been recorded but didn’t reveal any more details about it.
The people found dead all appeared to be residents of the property, with police still trying to locate next of kin.
He said: "This devastating tragedy will no doubt have a lasting impact on the families concerned, the whole community and, in particular, the local communities in our south-west.
Commissioner Dawson added that police were not looking for a suspect.
