Starbucks shut down all of its 8,000 company-operated stores Tuesday afternoon to conduct anti-bias training for their more than 175,000 employees.
The training came after a white Philadelphia store manager called police on two black men who were waiting for a friend inside a Starbucks, but had not made a purchase. The video of Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson being arrested quickly went viral last month, prompting the company to apologize.
The men reached a legal settlement with the city of Philadelphia for the sum of $1, in addition to the promise of a $200,000 grant to fund a pilot program aimed at helping local high-schoolers become entrepreneurs.
