The Angolan Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) on Friday carried out a suspected robbery, triggering a controversy that prompted Angolan authorities to announce yesterday the opening of a "criminal accountability" process of the agent involved in the murder.
The controversy erupted after a witness released a video showing the execution. A young man is injured, lying in the middle of a street near the handicraft market in Luanda. Next to him is an SIC agent, who does nothing. But a second agent approaches and shoots, killing the young man.
The government says SIC agents have engaged in clashes with four armed suspects, but acknowledges that the suspect's death was unjustified, "because he was already in control."
The journalist Rafael Marques denounced the existence of death squads in the SIC, something that this police force denied last November.
