Announcing a new bill on immigrant reunification on Tuesday, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) accused the Trump administration of setting up “internment camps” to hold migrant families together. This comes after weeks of Merkley’s complaints about President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy, which separated families at the border.
“People say, ‘Well the administration has the new plan. They want to go from family separation to family incarceration,'” Merkley said. “They want to set up internment camps.”
“We will be on the warpath here in Congress against effort to legalize internment camps,” he added.
Instead, the senator said, Congress should revive the family case management program.
But after weeks of freak-outs over Trump’s family separation program, the Democrats once again moved the goalposts on the administration’s immigration policy.
