Madison, WI - Authorities have identified a man that was shot and killed during an attempted bank robbery in Madison on Thursday afternoon on March 1st.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office said 35-year-old Luis Marty Narvaez of South Milwaukee was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Narvaez was not armed when he tried to rob the Chase Bank on Milwaukee Street around 4:50 p.m.
"It was at that point that apparently an armed security guard stationed at the bank engaged this suspect and shot him," Koval said. "Ultimately this individual did succumb to his injuries and is now dead."
Koval said the man did not have gun, but he acted like he did.
Koval said the man’s criminal record showed he has robbed a bank in the past.
Koval said the armed guard has been working at the bank for about three weeks. He said right now the Dane County District Attorney is not looking at charging the security guard.
Off Duty Services, the Texas-based company, that was contracted by Chase Bank for security confirmed the security guard in Thursday’s incident is a police officer in our area, but would not name which department.
