A baby was heard screaming after being locked in a car outside Tesco as temperatures reached an uncomfortable 26 degrees.
The disturbing incident happened at the superstore in Newton Abbot, Devon last Thursday and has sparked fury on social media.
A man filmed the baby's cries and could be heard in the audio clip saying "it's screaming its head off" and said it was "outrageous" the youngster had been left.
According to eyewitnesses, it was the grandfather of the child responsible for leaving the infant in the car unattended.
Tesco staff issued an urgent shop broadcast when they were informed by a member of the public.
A Tesco spokesman told Devon Live : “A customer told one of our colleagues that a young child had been left on their own in a parked car at our Newton Abbot store.
