A Russian father-to-be has died in a sickening hit-and-run crash which saw him sliced in half by a drunk driver.
Ildus Mukhametov, 28, whose wife is expecting the couple’s first child, was killed while using a pedestrian crossing in the city of Ufa.
The driver, named only as 27-year-old Andrey, was going twice the speed limit with the equivalent of half a bottle of vodka in his system when the crash happened.
The top half of Mr Mukhametov's body smashed through the windscreen and ended up wedged into the passenger footwell.
His lower limbs were left scattered across the road.
Andrey and a friend who was with him in the car initially fled on foot but were later caught by police.
The pair tried to confuse officers about who had been driving, but later established it was Andrey.
Despite police successfully establishing who was driving, Ildus's mother Rimma Mukhametova, 51, fears that his family's influence and money will mean he never faces justice.
She said: 'He has an influential father and I fear he will escape punishment.'
Speaking about her son, she added: 'He was the eldest of my three children - and I do not know how I will cope now.He helped me in everything, supported me.
'When his wife heard he had died, she was physically sick. They got married in spring and he was looking forward so much to being a father.
'Why did God need to take my son so young?'
