Fugitive murderer Shaun Walmsley is unrecognisable after 18 months on-the-run before his capture by armed police.
Walmsley was serving a life sentence, with a 30 year tariff, for the brutal murder of Anthony Duffy.
On Tuesday February 22 last year, he escaped from two prison officers during a visit to Aintree Hospital after two other men, believed to be in possession of a gun and a knife, demanded his release, before escaping in a gold coloured Volvo.
After a year and a half on the run, Walmsley, who previously had a shaved head, was finally arrested by armed police in the Harehills district of Leeds on Tuesday.
This morning, Walmsley appeared via video link at Liverpool Magistrates' Court.
With shoulder length brown hair and a beard, he spoke to confirm his name and date of birth after being charged with escaping from lawful custody at Aintree Hospital.
