The person arrested after the incident with the US Embassy in Cairo turned out to be a 24-year-old extremist who planned to perpetrate a "hostile act", a source told the Egyptian security organs. .
According to the official, the attacker carried flammable substances in his backpack that caught fire.
The source identified the suspect as Abdall Ayman Abdel Samia, from the Al Warraq neighborhood.
The police have information indicating that "the detainee professes extremist ideas and tried to perpetrate a certain hostile act," said the interlocutor of the press, noting that the suspect will be taken to court.
"As a result of the incident no one was hurt, no material damage of any kind was caused," he said.
After the crisis, the US Embassy in Cairo resumed its activities, US diplomats said.
