A tree surgeon has been hailed a hero after rescuing an elderly woman whose car got caught in a flash flood as Storm Bronagh battered the UK.
Rich Hamshaw, 32, smashed a window and used a rope to pull the stranded woman out of the partially-submerged vehicle while Britain was under a "danger to life" weather warning.
Mr Hamshaw came to the rescue after he heard the woman banging on the car's window for help after getting stuck on a road in Tinsley, Sheffield on Thursday afternoon.
The dramatic moment unfolded as Bronagh hammered parts of the UK with 76mph wind gusts and dumped almost half a month's worth of rain in Sheffield.
