Seven people were shot at a nightclub as it hosted a Halloween party called "The First Purge".
There may have been more than one gunman at the Sevilla nightclub in downtown Riverside, California, say police.
Chaos and panic erupted as about 10 shots were fired at the club just after midnight.
Revellers ducked for cover and stampeded towards the exit, and there were fights in the street as people ran for their lives, eyewitnesses say.
The club in the Los Angeles suburb was hosting a rap event with a Halloween theme, according to its Facebook page.
