A hero fisherman risked his life by jumping on a humpback whale to free it after it became entangled in a rope.
Sam Synstelien, who works as a commercial eel fisherman, bravely jumped onto the back of the thrashing sea mammal after rescuers spent hours trying to free the whale.
The whale was stuck to a rope attached to the ocean floor and Sam took matters into his own hands after three hours of failed rescue attempts.
His fellow crew member, Nicholas Taron, filmed the incredible scenes off the coast of California, US.
