Six young schoolchildren were killed and almost 20 people were injured when a car veered out of its lane and slammed into them as they crossed a road.
Distressing CCTV footage posted on social media shows the car ploughing into the large group, sending children and a cyclist flying, outside a primary school in Huludao, China.
The driver fled the scene and a suspect was later arrested and taken to a police station for questioning.
State media said six pre-school children were killed.
Before the death toll increased from five to six, state media said 19 people - 16 teenagers, two teachers and a passer-by - were injured.
CCTV footage shows multiple children being knocked down or thrown by a black car, which did not slow down before it crashed into the pupils, according to reports.
