A woman is in the hospital after being attacked by four dogs while walking down a Winston-Salem sidewalk Monday morning.
Forsyth County Animal Control said the woman – who is in her 60s – was attacked on East Sprague Street, near Peachtree Street, around 9:30 a.m.
A neighbor ran outside after hearing the woman’s pleas for help and was able to scare the dogs off.
“I saw the lady laid down in my driveway,” said the neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified. “She was screaming.”
The victim had bite wounds to her head, leg and arm, she said.
Animal control confirmed the woman had been bitten on her head and extremities. She was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
“I saw two or three injuries very deeply,” the neighbor said. “I saw almost the bone.”
Animal control added that there were 11 dogs running loose at the time, from a home at 1213 E. Sprague St. Six of those were puppies and were not involved in the attack.
Five large pit bull mixes were in the immediate area of the attack, but one did not engage the victim, investigators say.
