Louisiana-A 14-year-old middle school student suffered facial cuts and bruises after two cops slammed him to the floor and then a desk in a school office incident caught on camera.
The officers, who resigned at their chief’s request, were charged with misdemeanors – but his family wants them charged with felonies.
A grand jury indicted former officer Dan Cipriano on simple battery, according to CBS affiliate WAFB-TV, and Kip Dupre is charged with malfeasance in office. The charges followed a state police investigation that was launched after the surveillance video was sent anonymously to WAFB.
The two officers resigned at the request of Brusly Police Chief Jonathan Lefeaux. But the student’s attorney, Kwame Asante, said his grandparents want more action taken.
“They feel the DA's office did an adequate job by bringing it quickly to the people but feel it was a slap on the wrist based on the tape and what they saw done to their grandson,”: Asante said, according to CBS News. “This young man will still be dealing with this for a long time.”
