ZEBULON, N.C. (WNCN) - Zebulon police said a woman and a man wearing a ski mask attempted to steal a package, worth $400, off a porch on Watsonia Drive.
A woman living nearby took the pictures and confronted the couple. The couple put the property back and left in their silver SUV.
"That's bold, that's good stuff," said Zebulon resident Tige Phyfer said. "It's good to know that you have neighbors like that that'll have your back to the point that they'll go up to a few feet with someone committing a crime."
Phyfer is shocked to hear what happened Thursday afternoon near his home in the Taryn Meadows neighborhood in Zebulon.
"Stealing at Christmas is kind of low," Phyfer said. "It just puts you on guard. It makes you think twice about wanting to have stuff shipped, especially around the holidays."
For Heather Bateman, the news hits too close to home in a neighborhood she said is known for its safety.
"I had seen that car several times the night before, probably four or five times, and then I saw it down the street just sitting there," Bateman said.
This is all coming as she expects packages to arrive at her door.
"I'm concerned if mine's going to get here now," she said.
People throughout the neighborhood aren't letting this shake their holiday spirit.
"Those people that do stuff like that, they don't deserve to be running around and enjoying the same freedoms as people that go and work hard everyday," Phyfer said. "It's pretty sleazy."
