Ohio State Highway Patrol released dash cam video of a woman who stole a trooper's cruiser after telling authorities she was raped.
According to authorities, troopers responded to a report of a crash on County Road 122 just south of SR-95 just after 8:30 on Saturday morning. The initial report stated that a pick-up truck allegedly drove through closed bridge signs, then traveled across the bridge, and then into a grass yard.
Witnesses who observed the incident told a sheriff's deputy that the driver fled from the vehicle. The sheriff's deputy was able to catch up to the woman, who was walking through a field.
Troopers say the woman, who was only wearing a t-shirt and underwear, had scratches on the front of her legs and was bleeding and screaming she was raped and needed to get away, according to the police report.
While a trooper was walking around the front of his patrol car, the woman ran right past him and jumped inside the trooper’s patrol car through the passenger side and climbed into the driver's seat. As the deputy was attempting to prevent her from driving off in the cruiser, she took off at a high rate of speed as a deputy hung on to the cruiser.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was able to track the cruiser and followed the vehicle as it continued down County Road 121, before turning on SR-314 where the car reportedly went off on the right side of the road, struck a ditch, a tree and continued up an embankment and stopped, according to the report.
Deputies say the woman got out of the stolen cruiser and took off running, but deputies were quickly able to arrest the woman. She then taken to Ontario Medical Center.
Authorities also discovered that the pick-up truck involved in the crash had been reported stolen from a home in Mansfield, they said the vehicle was running during the time of the theft.
A deputy who was injured during the incident was treated at the scene for minor cuts.
The Morrow County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation into the rape allegations.
