A Victorian police officer has been charged with assault after an investigation into the use of excessive force during the arrest of an African-Australian man at a chemist's shop in Preston.
The state's anti-corruption watchdog on Thursday said an officer involved in the arrest, a senior constable, had been charged with two counts of common law assault and will appear in court in April.
