Footage shows a road worker being struck by a car in a sickening collision that sent him cartwheeling through the air.
Xolele Phindela, 32, was left with serious injuries following the incident on a busy highway at Grabouw, near Cape Town, South Africa.
Police have launched an investigation into the road accident but have not been able to locate the driver after they failed to stop at the scene.
A driver's dashcam shows the Toyota Avanza trying to overtake another car as it travels between 90km/h and 100km/h on a road with a speed limit of 80km/h.
The vehicle then ploughs straight into the terrified road worker without making an attempt to steer out of his path.
The footage was filmed by Elri DeMeillon and her husband Lyndon who were driving to a nearby seaside resort with their two kids.
Elri said: "At first when it happened I thought he had a lost an arm or a leg from the impact.
"But when we when we watched the footage you could see it was his spade. I shudder to think what would have happened to our family if that had come through our windscreen.”
Her children - aged 7 and 10 - were travelling in the back seat and says they have been left traumatised by what they saw.
Lyndon said: "It’s terrible. You can’t explain the trauma. We cried and our little ones of seven and 10 were so traumatised they just shouted at us to get away.
