Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Mansion Street around 6:30 p.m. after a 911 call from a different location, according to a press release from the Jackson Police Department.
When officers arrived, they heard a man and woman screaming from inside the residence. One officer then saw through a window the man holding the woman in a headlock. Officers then entered the residence and saw the man wielding a knife and allegedly holding the woman hostage, according to the release.
One officer shot the suspect in the neck, allowing the woman, later identified as his mother, to get away. She had a stab wound on her back believed to be caused by the suspect. Both were treated at Henry Ford Allegiance Health.
Police identify the man as a 29-year-old parole absconder from Jackson.
The Jackson officer who shot the suspect was on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a statement released March 12, Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka ruled the shooting was justified.
