“On Tuesday, August 21, Glendale Police responded to a call for service from the Vons located at 3233 Foothill Blvd. regarding a male acting suspiciously inside the store. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the male had filled a shopping cart with liquor and was attempting to steal the items.
One officer saw the suspect and attempted to detain him in the parking lot, but the suspect ran to a white Mustang and fled from the scene. Additional responding officers attempted to cut off the exit of the parking lot, but the suspect used the Mustang to ram one of the police cars and exit the lot.
Another responding officer saw the suspect fleeing and used his patrol car in an attempt to demobilize the Mustang by striking the rear panel of the car. This caused the Mustang to spin and come to a stop. Once stopped, other officers used their vehicles to pin the Mustang in. However, the suspect was able to maneuver his car out only to be pinned in again a very short distance away. At this point, officers got out of their patrol units to conduct a felony car stop, but the suspect continued to rev the engine, spinning his tires. He was able to free the Mustang and drive away.
The Mustang had been severely damaged to the point that it was no longer mobile, so the suspect abandoned the car on Foothill Blvd. near Boston Ave. and took off on foot. The officers set up a containment and search, utilizing the police helicopter and K-9s, but after a systematic search, the suspect was not located.
This case is ongoing and has been turned over to detectives for further investigation.”
