LAS VEGAS METRO POLICE - Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman met with members of the media today to discuss additional details of the June 14, 2019 officer involved shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of South Hualapai Way. At approximately 9:40 p.m. officers were dispatched to a gas station at the corner of West Sahara Avenue and South Hualapai Way to investigate a person with a gun call (we later learned he committed a robbery & kidnapping).
Upon arrival, patrol officers obtained information that a man had pointed a gun at another person in the parking lot of a gas station. The armed suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Joseph Delucco, then walked inside of another business on the north side of the parking lot. As officers began to approach the business, Delucco came out of the front door and a foot pursuit ensued.
Delucco ran out of the parking lot and towards the wall to an apartment complex. As Officer Kranjcevich turned the corner, Delucco had a firearm in his hand and threw it over the wall to the apartment complex. Officer Kranjcevich fired one round from his duty weapon and gave Delucco orders to show his hands. Delucco dropped to his knees and reached down to his waistband. Officer Kranjcevich fired several more times, striking Delucco.
Other officers arrived and placed Delucco into custody and requested medical attention. Delucco was subsequently transported to UMC Trauma. He was booked in absentia for carrying a concealed weapon, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and probation violation. It was later learned Delucco was the suspect in a kidnapping and robbery to a victim who had fled from the gas station just prior to officers’ arrival.
