Residents in western Mexico fear that the country's most power criminal organization might take over their town and are arming themselves in an effort to shut them out.
Backed with high-powered with military-style weaponry, hundreds of vigilantes, young and old, put on a fierce fight in the city of Tepalcatepec last Friday when they were attacked by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Drone footage posted on the Facebook account of Tepalcatepec Community Police showed the bloody aftermath of the hours-long gunfight that left a total of nine assassins dead and 11 others injured.
Other videos that were posted on social media showed hundreds of purported vigilante fighters and shot-up pickup trucks surrounded by bodies on a road in the state of Michoacan.
