The Scottish Justice Secretary is to apologise in person to the family of a prisoner who died after being restrained by a group of prison officers in jail.
Allan Marshall was being held on remand at HMP Edinburgh in March 2015 when he was involved in a lengthy struggle with guards, during which he was dragged face down and feet first by prison officers. He suffered a cardiac arrest and later died.
A sheriff has already described his death as 'entirely preventable' in a fatal accident inquiry.
Shocking CCTV emerged of the struggle, during which the prisoner was seen being dragged from a shower block, a towel placed on his face and at least one officer put his knee into his back. He was later seen being taken on the stretcher by paramedics.
A judge's report stated witnesses had described Mr Marshall being hit and stamped on during the restraint.
Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf, who has previously said he will meet with Mr Marshall's family, said such incidents cannot be allowed to happen in the future and 'certainly won't under my watch'.
