Riverside police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect accused of assaulting a police officer and stealing beer.
Around 11 p.m. Sept. 9, police responded to Halls Eastwood Market on Springfield Street after a man reportedly stole a 12-pack of beer and ran toward Harshman Road.
Cruiser camera and body camera footage shows a man coming out of a wooded area at a nearby apartment complex carrying a bag with alcohol in it.
As the officer approaches the suspect, the suspect argues with the officer when he is asked to place his hands behind his back to be detained.
The suspect then struggles with the officer, who uses his Taser on the man twice. The suspect then stands up and punches the officer multiple times in the head and runs toward the Yorktown Colony Apartment.
