A criminal case under the article “Excess of official powers with the use of violence” was instituted on the fact of the beating of a prisoner in Karelia, this was announced on Monday, October 14, the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee reports .
Last week, a video from a surveillance camera appeared on the Web, capturing the illegal actions of employees of the penitentiary institution. It was alleged that the events that appeared on the video took place in February 2014 in correctional colony No. 9 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Karelia.
The employees acted "clearly beyond the limits of official authority, inflicted multiple punches and kicks to the man who was serving his sentence in this correctional institution," the department said.
