Police Try To Arrest A Madman On Bus In Vancouver, Man Resists, Loses His pants

From a witness on board with this madman:



So I boarded 99 B-Line at Allison Road, with the perp where there are two empty seats left at the back of the bus, and he sits across from me.



He started a conversation with the girl sitting to my left, which begins innocently when he begins propositioning her first for coffee, but then begins to be more aggressive in tone, language and gaze.



The girl tries to deflect unsuccessfully. At this point, I pause my music and try to assess the situation and see if I/ the other passengers were in danger. Through the next few stops, he talks intermittently, about masturbation, marijuana use without ever breaking his gaze on this girl. At this point, I became seriously concerned for her safety and the safety of other passengers if he were to get physical as I felt an unrelenting pressure from him.



I thought that there was no real way to defuse the situation as he was clearly suffering with mental health and could not be reasoned with at the time. It was at this point, about 10 minutes after boarding, where I texted 877-777 as he is a large fella and I was worried about someone getting hurt as a precaution. I also thought about what would happen when the girl got off, and if he were to follow her, it would create an even more precarious situation.



10 minutes later his monologues turn incoherent as he starts talking about something Zionism while looking at me. I felt that I couldn't move away from that area of the bus, to avoid him just in case he were to take my seat beside the girl and just generally tried to ignore him.



A stop later he lights up a dart from his pocket and which alarms everyone because it shows his lack of inhibition and self-awareness. The bus eventually stops at the Starbucks on broadway right before cambie where 2 translink enforcement officers approach.



They assess the situation and ask the perp to step outside for a chat, he initially agrees, and asks the girl to step out with him. She declines and he refuses to leave the bus and reaches and touches the girl's upper leg, it was then that the officers immediately ask him to lay his hands off and close the distance to subdue him.



He first grabs onto the pole in front of me and I see him strike the first officer and knocks his glasses onto my lap. The situation escalates further as he is clearly resisting and a brawl occurs where everyone on the bus is a combination of shocked in place and terrified.



I hear the other officer yell at him to stop resisting and this is combined with punches and I hear a taser go off. This does not seem to faze him as he reaches for the officer's holster and I hear the officer yell at the perp to release his weapon.



This is extremely scary as it seems possible at this point that he could single-handedly overpower the three guys on him. I hear the officer call for backup and yells at everyone to exit the bus as we are all glued to our seats in shock at the escalation of violence. At this point, everyone streams out of the bus and more VPD officers arrive.
