The 22-year-old rapper with a Benjamin Franklin tattoo on his cheek climbed atop a black SUV and started tossing loose bills from a bag of money at residents of the “Skid Row” neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles.
A video documenting the unorthodox act of holiday charity is going viral on his official Twitter, racking up more than 234,000 views in less than 24 hours with the caption “The season of giving,” accompanied by a money bag emoji.
Passersby of all ages are captured desperately scurrying for cash in the clip.
Some members of the hip-hop community were quick to praise the performer best known for the Billboard hits “Thotiana” and “Respect My Cryppin.”
“They say a lot about BlueFACE but they never mention that he one of the most generous rappers in the game,” YouTube star DJ Akademiks, 28, tweeted. “… here he is humbly donating $50,000 to the less fortunate! THANK U BLUEFACE.”
Rap All-Stars also shared the viral clip, commenting: “Blueface pulled up in the hood and made it rain.”
But not everyone was impressed by this flashy philanthropy, with some accusing Blueface of “humiliating” the district’s homeless population.
“There’s a dreadful video (I won’t post it) showing the rapper Blueface standing on a car throwing $ at unhoused & underserved ppl,” actress-writer Pia Glenn, 42, tweeted. “Some might think that’s some ‘baller s–t.’ Many will think he’s ‘giving back.’ What he’s doing is DEMORALIZING and HUMILIATING ppl who deserve better.”
LGBTQ activist Dr. Jon Paul expressed his take more succinctly: “This is gross on so many levels.”
Blueface’s camp did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment. We will update this story if we hear back.
